As the holiday season approaches, we’re finding joy in not only the merriment of the festivities but also the art of creating a visually stunning and memorable table setting. You may have seen our limited eStyling festive table decorating services we launched this week? Well now I’m going one step further for those creative crafters and up cyclers who love a touch of something bespoke and elegant in your table styling.
In this DIY guide, we’re combining the joy of giving with the elegance of handmade luxury by creating bespoke Christmas crackers using gorgeous fabrics. From selecting the perfect materials to customising the surprises tucked inside, this project is bound to make your Christmas celebrations even more memorable. Here’s how...
We believe our beautiful cushion fabric off-cuts from Warwick, Zepel, Mokum and James Dunlop should not become landfill but instead should be enjoyed by our loyal norsu customers.
We are offering a complimentary bag of off-cuts - enough to make six crackers - to each customer with every purchase until sold out.
Enjoy, Nat and Kristy x
• Fabric for your crackers (we’re using our very bougie cushion fabric offcuts) or decorative paper
• Cardboard tubes, cut into 10cm lengths (consider even using your wrapping paper rolls)
• Double-sided sticky tape or glue (to stick the fabric together)
• Twine or ribbon
• Small gifts or lollies (see our filler ideas below)
• Personalised message or simply a dad joke on paper Optional - Paper crowns (lots available from Etsy)
- Long cracker snaps (can be found at most craft stores, here’s some from Spotlight)
Start saving your cardboard tubes from kitchen paper towels and wrapping paper now! You’ll want to cut them to the size you want your crackers to be (we’ve gone with a 10cm length). If you’re not able to save enough rolls you can buy cardboard rolls from stores like Officeworks.
Optional: Grab some cracker snaps (if you wish) from Spotlight, Etsy or craft stores.
If you’re using a cracker snap, place inside your cardboard tube and stick down with glue.
Cut the fabric to size. For our 10cm length tubes (which are about 3cm in diameter). we cut our pieces to 33cm x 20cm. Make sure to leave a 5cm overhang on each end to tie up with ribbon or twine.
Roll the crackers in your fabric and secure with double-sided sticky tape or glue.
Pinch together fabric at one end and tie with your ribbon or twine. Into the open end, pop inside your treats, notes/jokes etc and then simply tie with matching ribbon or twine.
Voila! Once you’ve made your first one you’ll breeze through the rest!
