HOW TO STYLE YOUR BEDSIDE TABLE

Perfect Bedside Table Styling. Every time.

If there's one question we get asked all the time, its help me style my bedside table!

As self appointed vignette gurus, our norsu Design team have tips and tricks for styling vignettes for every bedside table!

So whether you are after styling for a frequently used bedside table in the main bedroom, or perhaps an occassional use bedside in the guest room, we are spilling the tea on the secret formula for getting it right!

THE SECRET STYLING FORMULA

IN THREE KEY STEPS

1. START WITH A BASE

Whether its a trinket tray or a book, its always best to have a great base to contain and define your vignette.

2. BALANCE AESTHETICS WITH PRACTICAL PIECES

Think about objects that you or your guests might use.  Don't worry these pieces can be stylish. Its might be as simple as a small dish to house jewellery or an alarm clock (do these still exist)?!

3. EMBRACE VARYING HEIGHTS

You don't want your bedside vignette to look flat.  Create interest with varying heights - it will balance perfectly with your bedhead and the pillow and cushions.

A bedside lamp is the easiet way to do this and of course it will be used! If you have wall sconces or hanging pendants, change this for vases or plants (your guests will love fresh flowers!). Then simply add a candle to make sure it feels harmoniously balanced.

  • Selecting the perfect height
So often we get asked how tall a bedside should be.  The easiest answer is for you to measure the height of the top of your mattress (this can difer from bed to bed). This is a great starting point, as a general rule your bedsides should be a similar height. We recommend no more than 10cm lower than your mattress.

  • Selecting the perfect width
Measure the distance from the side of the bed to the walls (or wardrobe doors if they open out towards the bed) - this measurement will give you the absolute maximum width of a bedside table.  It's best to have a bit of space on the side of a bedside table and the wall.

  • Consider storage
Think about how your bedside will be used.  Are you a reader? Do you wear glasses? This will determine whether you need a drawer or cupboard.  When in doubt, always say 'yes' beacuse a clutter free bedside means a claming sleep. For spaces used less frequently, like a guest room, storage is less of an issue.
