    My First Day ...

So it's day one of my new job, it's 8:55am. I live 10 minutes from norsu yet I've allowed half an hour because I'm nervous. I'll have to wait at the railway crossing for three trains or my car will breakdown and 30 minutes would allow enough time for RACV to get here if that happened. I've turned the car radio to Gold 104.3 in some hope that Eye of the Tiger will start playing so I can get more motivated than a woman wearing brand new Lorna Jane at her first free-trial Body Pump class. It was a somewhat cool day for January, and yet I have the air con on full blast. Back at home my bedroom looks like a Salvos door stop on a Sunday night because I had no idea what to wear to work. I can't find a park anywhere, I mean anywhere. It's school drop off time. The air con has gone even higher. I finally find a park and my key won't come out of the ignition (has happened once before) I scream in French but not the type of French the speak in Paris.

The key is out, I check my hair in the rearview mirror, I'm looking pretty good if I do say so myself (ignoring the sweat marks down my back). I start to think this is ridiculous because I have known Nat and Kristy for almost a year and I just spent a weekend with the whole team at a strategy retreat. But this is different, this is my first real day working for the best company you could ask to work for. I'm about to work doing a passion of mine day in, day out.

I'm waiting to cross the road as I think about the little boy who use to rearrange his bedroom every day when he got home from school, the kid who moved his whole lounge room around to make a 'theatre' and got clipped round the ears by his Mum for hanging bed sheets to the walls with masking tape to make curtains...I try not to get runover as I slip out of my day dream and walk in to meet the girls...here we go.

My new role is Content Marketing Specialist, but it's certainly not what I'd thought I would be doing at 20 years old. I went straight from completing VCE to spending the last two years studying a Bachelor of Design at Whitehouse Institute of Design...although design was not always the path I thought I would take.... So here's five quick facts about me:

    1. I've spent 16 years of my life as a ballet dancer under the instruction of The Jane Moore Academy of Ballet, The Australian Ballet and the Royal Academy of Dance. I left school in Year 11 for a Term to study ballet full time and become a professional dancer until I woke up and realised even though everyone thought it was for me and I had the potential, it wasn't what made me happy. Now I still dance regularly but as a hobby.

    2. I have three sisters and brother. One of my sisters and my brother are both actors and in Year 12 I extremely fortunate to receive a perfect score for VCE Theatre, and performed at The Arts Centre. Apart from being one of the greatest moments of my life, I realised that ultimately being on the stage as an actor is what I wanted to do no matter what, yet that takes time, practice and a whole lot of money to get there...and I'm slowly getting there.

3.I use to buy Australian House & Garden with my packet of footy cards at the newsagent  and I would catch the train to try and find some of the houses featured in the magazine. I once painted our fabric sofa with craft paint because "I wanted it to look like the couches in the magazines".

    4. My great grandmother was a wedding dress designer (hence where my design blood comes from) and she use to live by the beach and one of my favourite places is to be down by the beach. When I need to feel calm and clear my head I play some Rufus and walk through the sand, it's my happy place.

    5. Although my interests have evolved to be somewhat creative and "arty-Farty" I often get stereotyped quite easily but I have my blokey moments and enjoy time with the boys drinking a beer and I am an avid Collingwood supporter (I have all my teeth don't worry).

Back to day one and eventually during the day I was shown my office and I'm thinking wow an office, I have a legit title and an office this is profeshhhh...well...then they showed me my office...

So obviously that was that, contract was torn up and it was see ya later ladies and gentleman. Joking! Only pulling your pom pom! I hit the jackpot, I got to redesign and flip a room as one of my first jobs for norsu!!...that's a pretty sweet deal compared to sitting with Bob from Human Relations going through OH&S for four hours....

So as the terms goes "watch this space" as I turn the current space into a workable, relaxing, calming, tranquil and serene space.

*cut to 2 weeks later* when I'm sitting in this 'haven', Nat, Kristy and I are screaming at each other to make a deadline for our new range (hint, hint!) that's four days behind, No matter how many fluffy cushions, white walls or how loud you crank up Buddha radio you can't make that situation even close to calm (which obviously will never happen because all we actually do is sip on our skinny lattes and karate chop cushions...not).

Anyhow, stay tuned and touch back to have a squiz at the after shot and let me know about you're first day jitters in the comments below!

    Nice to meet you!

    Josh :)

Thank you for your supportive comments! Always scary taking the first step! Yes we will be painting the room a shade of Dulux grey/white including the trims and skirting as the room has a small window and not a huge amount of light! Check out our instagram for updates! Josh :)
